EarthRe wins IFSCA reinsurance licence for GIFT City launch
The IFSC approval follows a USD 27 million Series A for parent InRisk Labs, money intended to help meet regulatory capital needs to scale EarthRe in India.
EarthRe Insurance IFSC Limited, a technology-driven non-life reinsurer, received approval from India’s IFSCA to obtain its reinsurance licence, becoming the first locally incorporated reinsurer in GIFT City. Reinsurance News reports the company is positioning the licence as a step forward for India’s domestic reinsurance ecosystem.
The reinsurer’s parent, InRisk Labs, recently completed a USD 27 million Series A funding round. EarthRe says the Series A will be used in part to support the regulatory capital required to scale its operations in India’s reinsurance market.
EarthRe plans to use its technology, data and risk-intelligence infrastructure, developed by InRisk Labs, to deploy a regulated reinsurance balance sheet focused on India and the broader Global South. The company says its product set spans traditional treaty and facultative reinsurance, structured covers, and parametric or index-based solutions.
EarthRe also said it brings expertise across natural catastrophe, climate risk, property, crop and other specialty lines, combining domain-led underwriting with catastrophe modelling and climate-risk analytics. The company expects to keep underwriting judgment on Indian risk in India and serve Global South customers from GIFT City.
