Factorial and SK On sign MoU on solid-state battery manufacturing
The MoU aims to test whether SK On's lithium-ion manufacturing footprint, including about 100 GWh of capacity in the United States, can support future solid-state battery development.
US-based Factorial Energy has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Korea-based battery maker SK On to explore manufacturing synergies for solid-state batteries. The collaboration is intended to combine Factorial’s cell technology and scale-up expertise with SK On’s global manufacturing network and pilot capabilities, according to Yahoo Finance.
A core goal is to assess technical feasibility and manufacturing considerations, including whether and how SK On’s existing lithium-ion battery production infrastructure could be used to support future FEST solid-state battery technologies. SK On currently supplies EV batteries to automotive OEMs including Hyundai Motor Group, Ford, Volkswagen, and Ferrari.
SK On says it has more than 200 GWh of annual production capacity worldwide, including approximately 100 GWh in the United States. Its US footprint includes 22 GWh of capacity in Commerce, Georgia, and operations in Tennessee.
Factorial said the effort reflects its capital-light approach to industrialization, designed to accelerate commercialization by leveraging established manufacturing infrastructure. The companies also said the work will evaluate how solid-state battery technology could integrate into global production ecosystems.
