Lummis urges Senate to pass crypto Clarity Act before recess

The bill is stalled in part over banking lobby concerns about crypto firms letting clients earn stablecoin yield, and an updated version added ethics limits on officials and their families.

Senator Cynthia Lummis is pressing for the Senate to vote on the proposed crypto market structure Clarity Act before it goes to recess, warning that some lawmakers are still seeking delays and additional demands. In remarks carried by Bitcoin Magazine, she said she and Democratic lawmakers have been working intensively to get the bill to the floor, while still arguing that Democrats are holding up progress.

Lummis said an updated approach to the Clarity Act was introduced in July that addresses ethics concerns, including a ban on government officials and their families from issuing or promoting crypto. She also tied the timing pressure to a broader push to move the bill through the Senate before recess.

Bitcoin Magazine reports that the Clarity Act has been deadlocked for much of 2026, with one sticking point tied to concerns raised by the banking lobby about allowing crypto companies to let clients earn stablecoin yield.

The outlet added that, if enacted, the Clarity Act would establish a regulatory framework for the U.S. cryptocurrency market. It also notes ongoing controversy around ethics, including criticism of the president’s family crypto business ventures, which the White House has said does not involve conflicts of interest.
