Oil rises after Houthi claim of missile strike on Saudi tanker

The claim centers on an attack near Yanbu, a key Saudi crude export hub, and comes as disruptions tied to the Strait of Hormuz continue.

Oil prices rose after the Houthis claimed they carried out a missile attack on a Saudi oil tanker near Yanbu in the Red Sea, a development that raised fresh concerns about supply route risks, according to BNY’s Geoff Yu as covered by FXStreet.

Yu said the incident highlights the threat to alternative export routes even while the market continues to weigh ongoing Strait of Hormuz disruption risk, with Washington reportedly seeing progress on an Iran deal.

The Houthis said they attacked a Saudi tanker, and the claim was not immediately confirmed by Saudi authorities, the vessel operator, or maritime security agencies, while recent weeks have seen a wider pattern of tit-for-tat attacks between the Houthis and Saudi Arabia.

FXStreet noted that the episode also comes amid ongoing escalation, including Saudi airstrikes on Houthi facilities at Hodeidah, and that oil initially reacted with gains.
