Olam Agri doubles wheat milling capacity in Senegal

The expanded Diamniadio facility raises annual milling to more than 360,000 tonnes to meet Senegal’s wheat demand of about 800,000 tonnes a year.

Olam Agri has doubled its wheat milling capacity to more than 360,000 tonnes annually at an expanded facility in Diamniadio, Senegal, aiming to satisfy the country’s growing demand for wheat-based products, World Grain reports.

The company said the added production is intended to support its food manufacturing growth and improve food security, noting that Senegal consumes about 800,000 tonnes of wheat each year.

Olam Agri also described the investment as strengthening local food manufacturing and supply resilience while helping bakeries, pasta and biscuit manufacturers, food processors, and small and medium-sized enterprises.

The facility was inaugurated July 9 by Senegal’s minister of Industry and Commerce, along with local officials and representatives from government agencies, project partners, financial institutions, and customers. Olam Agri said its operations in Senegal support about 800 direct and indirect jobs.
