Sompo to sponsor PGA TOUR Championship Series tournament starting in 2027

The multi-year title sponsorship begins at Silverado Resort in Napa from July 26 to August 1, 2027, with the event moving to an as yet announced market in 2028.

Sompo Holdings has signed a multi-year agreement with the PGA TOUR to become the title sponsor of a new full-field tournament that will start in 2027, before transitioning into the PGA TOUR Championship Series in 2028, Coverager reports. The 2027 event will debut at Silverado Resort’s North Course in Napa, California, running July 26 to August 1, 2027, and will feature a 144-player field over 72 holes, with a 36-hole cut to the top 65 and ties. Beginning in 2028, the tournament is set to relocate to a new market that has not yet been announced. Broadcast partners will include CBS, Golf Channel, and PGA TOUR media platforms, including PGA TOUR LIVE on ESPN+. Coverager also notes the sponsorship comes after Sompo’s 2026 strategic moves to expand its global commercial insurance operations, including planned acquisitions of Service Insurance Companies in the U.S. and Fator Seguradora in Brazil. Sompo said its “SOMPO Earth Positive Actions” materiality framework will be central to the venture, including linking homeowners with contractors, providing tools for repair providers, and offering post-disaster referrals for policyholders. The insurer also plans to integrate Kamakura Shinsho’s funeral, grave, nursing care, and inheritance services into its wellbeing ecosystem.
