US-Canada energy trade value fell in 2025, natural gas and power rose
Natural gas and electricity trade rose slightly in 2025 even as overall US-Canada energy trade value declined to an estimated $137 billion, according to U.S. Census data.
U.S.-Canada energy trade value fell in 2025, declining 11% to an estimated $137 billion, according to U.S. Census Bureau data cited by the EIA.
The shift was driven by a modest increase in the trade value of natural gas and electricity between the two countries.
The EIA reports that the natural gas and power segment rose primarily because natural gas prices and trade volume both increased in 2025.
Overall energy trade still declined due to that natural gas and electricity strength not fully offsetting weaker parts of the broader energy trade flow.
