VYRD Insurance sues LG over alleged washer leak damage
The insurer says it paid $167,493.36 under a homeowners policy and is seeking that amount, plus pre-judgment interest and court costs, through subrogation.
VYRD Insurance Company is suing LG Electronics U.S.A. in Florida state court, seeking recovery after it says a leaking LG washing machine caused substantial water damage to a home. The complaint, filed in the Circuit Court of the Sixth Judicial Circuit in Pasco County and later moved to federal court in August 2026, alleges the insured bought the washing machine in April 2022. It claims that on July 12, 2024, the machine was running normally when it leaked, resulting in significant damage to the premises, and that a later investigation traced the leak to a defect in the product.
VYRD says it paid $167,493.36 under its homeowners policy to repair, replace, or restore the home to its pre-loss condition. The suit proceeds through subrogation, and the insurer asks the court to award the full amount it paid, along with pre-judgment interest and court costs.
The complaint asserts a single claim for strict products liability. It alleges the washer was unsafe for its intended use, including claims of an unreasonably dangerous risk of leaking, and that factory-installed water lines were not adequately installed, allowing them to separate from their connections.
