Coldcard hackers move 64 BTC and 200 ETH into crypto mixers

CertiK says the Bitcoin transfer went to Wasabi and the Ether went to Tornado Cash, tactics that can make recovery harder by breaking on-chain links.

Hackers tied to the Coldcard exploit have sent 64 Bitcoin and 200 Ether into cryptocurrency mixing protocols, according to blockchain security platform CertiK, in moves designed to obscure where the stolen funds ultimately end up.

Cointelegraph reports that the 64 BTC, valued at $4.17 million, was transferred from address bc1q0 to the Wasabi mixing protocol on Tuesday. The 200 ETH, worth $380,000, was moved to Tornado Cash on Wednesday, according to CertiK data.

Mixing protocols like Tornado Cash typically pool and then scramble cryptocurrency from multiple users, breaking publicly traceable on-chain links between senders and recipients. This can reduce the chances of asset recovery by making the stolen funds harder to follow.

The Coldcard exploit has been identified as the third-largest crypto hack so far in 2026, with Galaxy Digital estimating at least $100 million in Bitcoin stolen across three confirmed attack waves from 7,300 victim wallets. Galaxy also flagged a suspected fourth wave that could raise total losses to about $130 million in BTC.
