The release showed annual retail sales growth easing to 0.7%, while EUR/USD traded about 0.1% lower near 1.1543 at press time.

Eurozone retail sales declined by 0.3% month on month in June, coming in below expectations for a 0.1% rise, according to Eurostat data summarized by FXStreet.

On an annualized basis, retail sales grew 0.7%, weaker than estimates of 1.0%. May’s annual figure was revised to 1.9% from 1.6%, the release also reflected, while June’s month on month figure was revised against prior expectations.

FXStreet said the data was not expected to have a major impact on the euro, and noted that EUR/USD was trading about 0.1% lower near 1.1543 at the time of publication.

Retail sales measure the volume of goods sold in the euro area and are followed as an indicator of consumer spending, with the retail sector representing around 5% of the Eurozone’s total value added, FXStreet added.
