Gallagher appoints Andy Winwood as MEA senior executive officer

The appointment is subject to regulatory approval, and Winwood will lead Gallagher’s Middle East & Africa operations and report to Simon Matson.

Global insurance broker Gallagher has appointed Andy Winwood as Senior Executive Officer for the Middle East and Africa (MEA), subject to regulatory approval, with responsibility for leading the regional business and supporting clients across the Middle East.

Winwood will report to Simon Matson, Senior Vice President of Gallagher Global Broking. Gallagher said Winwood joined the firm in 2025 and brings more than 35 years of industry experience focused on the Middle East risk environment, most recently serving as a Senior Risk and Insurance consultant at Saudi Arabian Oil Company, also known as Aramco.

Before joining Gallagher, Winwood held senior broking and captive management roles in the UK and Middle East after starting his career with a Lloyds broker in 1990. Gallagher also noted it established its first in-region Middle East presence in 2022, built on its UAE presence, and that it launched an in-country presence in Saudi Arabia last month.

In comments about the appointment, Gallagher highlighted Winwood’s understanding of risk across different sectors and years of hands-on experience in the region, saying he will provide leadership, stability, and oversight as the broker expands its MEA operations. Winwood said his focus will be building on the firm’s proposition and services, bringing in new talent, and ensuring clients receive a high level of service.
