Sensex and Nifty open higher as crude falls and RBI keeps rates steady
The RBI held the repo rate at 5.25%, while FIIs sold Indian equities worth ₹943.42 crore on Wednesday, according to exchange data.
Indian benchmark indices Sensex and Nifty 50 opened slightly higher on Thursday, August 6, supported by a decline in crude oil prices and buying interest in Reliance Industries, despite mixed cues from global markets, according to LiveMint Markets.
In early trade, the Sensex rose 201.43 points to 78,782.43 and the Nifty 50 gained 16.35 points to 24,641. The article also pointed to market moves shaped by the recently introduced Closing Auction Session for stocks with futures and options contracts in the equity cash segment.
Investor sentiment received a boost after the Reserve Bank of India kept the repo rate unchanged at 5.25% for the fourth consecutive policy meeting and maintained a neutral stance. RBI Governor Sanjay Malhotra said future rate decisions would remain data-dependent, as the central bank assesses whether higher energy prices tied to the West Asia conflict feed into broader inflation.
LiveMint Markets also noted that trading in parts of Asia was mixed overnight, with Japan, South Korea, and Hong Kong lower, while China edged higher. Foreign Institutional Investors remained net sellers, offloading Indian equities worth ₹943.42 crore on Wednesday, and the Nifty 50 had shifted into minor profit-booking after earlier gains, though late-session buying helped it close green on Wednesday.
