Zurich discloses separate US peak peril cat reinsurance tower
The change is tied to Zurich’s $150 million Turicum Re Ltd. catastrophe bond series 2026-1, and it also adjusted the North American earthquake swap in its US all-perils tower.
Zurich has disclosed how it structures its catastrophe reinsurance protections after the mid-year renewals, including a new, separate tower for US peak perils protection, Reinsurance News reports. The insurer said the US peak perils tower is shown above an unchanged $650 million retention.
Zurich linked the US peak perils separation to the issuance of its $150 million Turicum Re Ltd. (Series 2026-1) catastrophe bond transaction, according to Reinsurance News. In the same disclosure, the outlet said the firm’s US all-perils tower kept its retention and treaty components unchanged from the January renewals, except for an increase in the North American earthquake swap at the top to $225 million from $215 million.
For other regions, Zurich’s Europe all-perils tower has a lower retention, and the regional cat treaties portion has decreased, Reinsurance News added. Specifically, the Europe all-perils retention fell to $489 million from $505 million, while the regional cat treaties portion dropped to $449 million from $463 million, resulting in a slight reduction in coverage.
Reinsurance News also said Zurich left its rest of world all-perils coverage and its global aggregate cat treaty unchanged from the January 1 disclosure, as well as the global top cat treaty within the structure described for Europe all perils and US all perils protection.
