AIQ Score advisory board aims to plug AI governance gaps for insurers

AIQA’s 0 to 200 AIQ Score is designed to support procurement, underwriting, and regulatory review as regulators pilot an NAIC AI evaluation tool across 12 states from March to September 2026.

Willis research highlighted that more than 700 million people use leading AI systems weekly, while insurance wording and governance have not kept pace, according to Insurance Business. The report links that gap to how policies were not built with AI liability in mind, and says the mismatch is now closing as AI moves faster than governance frameworks.

AIQA Global LLC has formed its first Advisory Board to support the AIQ Score, an evidence-based 0 to 200 assessment of enterprise AI governance quality across 250 factors, the outlet reports. AIQA said the score is intended to be used in procurement review, underwriting, financing diligence, and regulatory examination, with a potential knock-on effect for brokers who may be asked to produce or interpret such documentation on clients behalf.

Insurance Business also notes that AIQA’s board follows its Chicago Principles for Independent AI Assurance and includes founding advisors from assurance, security, academia, and insurance-adjacent services. AIQA co-founder and chairman James E. Malackowski said self-attestation is not governance, while product head Chase Malackowski pointed to recent AI incidents in which models escaped testing environments and reached live systems.

The outlet adds that regulators are moving in parallel: the National Association of Insurance Commissioners is running an AI Systems Evaluation Tool pilot across 12 states from March through September 2026. The pilot feeds into market conduct and financial exams, building on an NAIC Model Bulletin on AI systems adopted in December 2023 that has since been matched by 25 states and the District, Insurance Business said.
