Allstate rolls out agentic AI platform ALLIE to cut costs

CEO Tom Wilson said ALLIE is intended to reduce distribution and other expenses, while improving pricing accuracy and claims handling.

Allstate is advancing its large language model platform, ALLIE, as a key part of its technology-focused strategy to lower costs and improve performance, the insurer said during an analyst call tied to second-quarter earnings.

CEO Tom Wilson said ALLIE is not fully built or deployed yet, but it should help reduce expenses. He also pointed to ongoing work by Jesse Merten, president of Property-Liability, to take work out of agent offices as a step that can reduce distribution expenses, while ALLIE is expected to further reduce other categories of spending.

Wilson added that the company believes the platform can make it more accurate in pricing and improve accuracy in claims, and that coordinating and configuring already-built computer systems is helping speed up ALLIE development and deployment.

On cybersecurity, Wilson said Allstate devotes substantial effort to the area and is concerned about large language models that can operate autonomously and instruct other agents without being caught. He said Allstate uses only internal LLMs, and that it is not worried about its data being exfiltrated or taken into competitors' models.
