Crypto Clarity Act vote slips to September as lawmakers go into recess

A vote on the long-awaited Clarity Act has been delayed until September as lawmakers went into recess, according to comments from Senate Majority Leader John Thune reported by Bitcoin Magazine, citing POLITICO.
The bill, which was passed by the House of Representatives last year, has undergone text changes over the past year, with supporters pointing to revisions related to Democrats’ input. Some Republicans have accused Democrats of stalling the legislation.
Bitcoin Magazine also notes that lawmakers have faced broader deadlock in 2026 tied to stablecoin yield concerns between banking stakeholders and crypto exchanges, while Democrats have also sought additional ethics work in the bill.
The latest draft includes language banning government officials from promoting or making money from crypto, and President Donald Trump has argued for passing the measure to help the U.S. lead in crypto and AI, while raising ethics concerns tied to political opponents’ activities.
