Glomar Minerals unit heads to Pacific seabed to survey polymetallic nodules

The 65-day survey will cover Glomar's two Clarion-Clipperton Zone license areas, which the company says are rich in manganese, cobalt, nickel, copper, and rare earths.

Glomar Minerals said its wholly owned subsidiary, UK Seabed Resources Limited, departed Tahiti for the Pacific Clarion-Clipperton Zone to survey its license area for polymetallic nodules, according to Mining.com. The company said the nodules within its two CCZ license areas total an area the size of Louisiana.

Glomar noted the survey is the first comprehensive geological and biological assessment of its UK2 license area in more than 40 years. The campaign is planned for 65 days, run with Earth Sciences New Zealand aboard the research vessel RV Tangaroa.

The company said it aims to start processing polymetallic nodules before the end of the Trump administration term as it evaluates regulatory routes beyond the International Seabed Authority. Glomar is also looking at exclusive economic zones where it could launch a relatively small operation while the ISA continues negotiations on rules for commercial mining in international waters.

Mining.com also reported that Glomar owns UKSR, which holds two UK-sponsored exploration contracts covering about 133,000 square kilometers in the CCZ between Hawaii and Mexico. The company acquired UKSR from the bankruptcy estate of Norway's Loke Marine Minerals in 2025, after Lockheed Martin previously owned and sold the subsidiary.
