India stocks end week higher as small-caps outperform broader market
The Sensex finished at 78,499.19, down 0.6% on Friday, while the Nifty 50 closed at 24,570.65, down 0.3%.
Indian equities ended the week with gains, as small-caps comfortably outpaced the broader market, according to LiveMint Markets. Benchmarks still saw mixed Friday action, with the Sensex closing 0.58% lower at 78,499.19 and the Nifty 50 down 0.27% to 24,570.65.
For the full week, the Sensex rose 0.51% and the Nifty 50 gained 0.76%, supported by strength across capital goods, metals, automobiles and information technology. Bank of India Mutual Fund’s chief investment officer Alok Singh attributed the sectoral split largely to earnings trends, saying stronger results helped capital goods and metal companies, while automobiles benefited from recovering demand and stable margins. He also said the IT rebound was driven more by technical factors and oversold conditions than earnings surprises.
