MetaMask launches self-custodial Agent Wallet for AI crypto trading

The wallet routes transactions through simulation, threat scanning, and MEV protection, and provides up to $10,000 a month in loss coverage for eligible trades.

MetaMask launched an Agent Wallet designed for AI agents to trade crypto on their own, with guardrails set by the user. The wallet is self-custodial and routes transactions through simulation, threat scanning, and MEV protection, with eligible trades getting loss coverage up to $10,000 per month.

MetaMask said the wallet plugs into common AI tools developers already use, including Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, and OpenClaw. It also handles gas for the agent, settling fees in the token being moved so the agent does not need to hold a chain native coin, and it carries no attached token.

Decrypt noted MetaMask is not the first to build in this area, citing Coinbase’s agentic wallets in February and MoonPay’s work starting in spring. Still, Decrypt said MetaMask’s wallet presence makes it the largest player, with roughly a quarter of the wallet market, as Consensys and founder Joe Lubin bet that future onchain activity will be driven by software rather than humans.
