The outlet reports that a 69-year-old retired government employee in Gwangju has stopped taking daily walks because the heat makes outdoor activity too dangerous, describing how even a short walk left him sweating and seeking refuge in an air-conditioned pharmacy.
SCMP Economy also cites data from the Korea Meteorological Administration, saying South Korea recorded its hottest day on record on July 31, when the temperature in Yangsan reached 41.4 degrees Celsius.
