Trekor aims to triple output at Arizona Florence copper mine
The Florence mine produced 6.7 million pounds in the first half, and Trekor plans to add about 26 new wells this month to help reach a full-year target of 30 million to 35 million pounds.
Trekor Metals said production at its Florence copper mine in Arizona needs to accelerate threefold in the second half to meet a full-year target of at least 30 million pounds.
According to Mining.com, the world’s first in-situ copper recovery operation produced 6.7 million pounds in the six months ended June 30, including 5.2 million pounds in the second quarter, its first full three-month operating period. To hit the 30 million to 35 million pound goal, Florence must deliver an additional 23.3 million to 28.3 million pounds.
Trekor plans to bring about 26 new wells online this month, which the company expects to speed the ramp-up as it exits 2026 near the capacity run rate.
Mining.com also noted Florence is Trekor’s main near-term organic growth engine, using in-situ recovery that injects a weak sulphuric acid solution into the orebody and pumps copper-bearing liquid to a surface plant. Florence’s wellfield averaged about 12,000 litres per minute in the second quarter, while the recovered solution graded 1.6 grams of copper per litre.
