Trump signs orders to narrow birthright citizenship and curb “birth tourism”

One order directs federal agencies not to recognize US citizenship for certain US-born children when neither parent is a US citizen.

US President Donald Trump signed two executive orders aimed at narrowing birthright citizenship and intensifying a crackdown on “birth tourism,” after an earlier policy attempt was rejected by the Supreme Court, according to SCMP Economy.

The first order directs federal agencies not to recognize US citizenship of certain US-born children where neither parent is an American citizen, and it applies in cases where either parent is classified as an “alien enemy.”

The order’s definition of “alien enemy” includes members of designated foreign terrorist organisations and individuals designated as global terrorists, SCMP Economy reported.
