Palestinian Christians weigh emigration as economic and security risks rise

Hundreds have left the West Bank since the Gaza war began nearly three years ago, with one entrepreneur considering moving his family and startup to the United States.

Palestinian Christians say worsening economic and security conditions in the West Bank are pushing more families to consider leaving, according to reporting by SCMP Economy, citing comments from Reverend Mitri Raheb, founder and president of Dar al-Kalima University in Bethlehem.

Raheb warned that if current conditions continue, there could be no Palestinian Christian left by 2050, describing the community as having lived continuously in the Holy Land for about 2,000 years.

SCMP Economy reports that hundreds of Christians have departed since the war in the Gaza Strip began nearly three years ago, amid growing uncertainty.

A 31-year-old entrepreneur, Issa Qassis, said he has been seriously considering immigrating to the United States for about a year, expressing frustration and hopelessness while weighing whether to relocate his family and the startup he established in Ramallah.
