Thailand unveils Siam Silica plan to build semiconductor ecosystem by 2030
The roadmap targets eight integrated circuit design firms and two advanced packaging facilities by 2030.
Thailand has launched the Siam Silica framework, a national road map meant to strengthen its role in the semiconductor race by building a domestic ecosystem and positioning the country as a hub in an integrated supply chain across ASEAN. According to SCMP Economy, the program was unveiled by the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation, with semiconductor development described by the ministry as a national priority.
Siam Silica will focus on five areas, including photonics fabrication and advanced packaging, along with silicon design, quantum photonics, and power devices. The plan also sets specific output goals by 2030, aiming to establish eight integrated circuit design companies, one semiconductor fabrication plant, and two advanced semiconductor packaging facilities.
The ministry also announced an education and talent push tied to the semiconductor effort, including a Higher Education Sandbox degree programme designed to fast-track deep-tech expertise. SCMP Economy said the related STEMPlus platform will recruit 152 lecturers and scientists, 950 researchers and experts, 553 highly skilled engineers, and 1,330 technicians for the programme.
