Air India pilot gets confirmatory psychoactive drug test after turbulence
The ministry said eight passengers and four crew were hospitalized, and both pilots were taken off the flying roster while an investigation proceeds.
India’s aviation ministry said an Air India pilot involved in a dramatic turbulence incident is undergoing a confirmatory psychoactive drug test after an initial screening. The Airbus A320 flight from Phuket, Thailand to New Delhi on August 4 lost around 300 feet, or 91 meters, before stabilizing and landing safely, according to Agence France-Presse via SCMP Economy.
The ministry said the screening test for the pilot in command produced a result that required confirmatory testing. After landing, eight passengers and four cabin crew members were admitted to hospitals, with their conditions described as stable.
The ministry classified the event as a “Serious Incident,” and said India’s Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau has launched an investigation. Both pilots have been removed from the flying roster pending the investigation’s outcomes.
