Indian stocks hold gains as investors weigh Middle East risk and US inflation

The Sensex rose 0.5% to 78,499.17 and the Nifty added 0.8% to 24,570.65 as traders tracked F&O market changes and the RBI’s latest monetary policy.

Indian equities ended the week higher despite elevated volatility, as investors balanced the rollout of a new Closing Auction Session framework for F&O stocks, the Reserve Bank of India’s monetary policy decision, and ongoing geopolitical uncertainty. Over the week, the Sensex rose 0.52% to 78,499.17, while the Nifty gained 0.77% to finish at 24,570.65, according to LiveMint Markets.

LiveMint Markets cited market participants saying the week ahead could be driven by two main themes, developments in the Middle East and the July US inflation report. Enrich Money CEO Ponmudi R said investors may stay cautious as geopolitical uncertainty and evolving expectations for US monetary policy continue to shape global risk appetite.

The article also pointed to continued momentum from India’s earnings season and improving foreign institutional flows, alongside supportive domestic liquidity. It said major companies including Vodafone Idea, Hindustan Aeronautics, RVNL, Tata Motors, and Bharat Dynamics are scheduled to release April to June quarter results this week, with additional firms such as Ashok Leyland, Apollo Hospitals, HAL, Bharat Forge, Grasim Industries, and Tata Motors also set to announce results.

On the macro front, the report said India’s Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation will release July 2026 CPI data on August 12, and that investors will also watch WPI inflation and foreign exchange reserves. The piece noted Middle East developments including Iran’s conditions for reopening the Strait of Hormuz and a report that a UAE vessel was targeted by an Iranian missile, alongside attacks involving groups in Yemen and a Turkey parliamentary approval related to the Kurdish peace process.
