John Lee backs Northern Metropolis plans to diversify Hong Kong housing

Lee also said the government will offer policy support for the arts, including subsidies and venues, as part of the Northern Metropolis vision.

Hong Kong Chief Executive John Lee Ka-chiu said the city’s Northern Metropolis will help diversify the housing ladder for young people, addressing one of the issues raised by residents at a town hall forum.

Lee made the remarks at the second town hall meeting held on Sunday at Kowloon Tong Government Primary School, where participants discussed housing, the cultural sector, and innovation and technology, as part of input gathering for Hong Kong’s first five-year plan and his annual policy address.

He also pledged a more supportive environment for the cultural sector to build a globally recognized “Hong Kong brand,” saying the government would provide policy support in areas such as subsidies and venues while leaving the ultimate development to artists themselves.

Lee said he met with about 120 residents during the forum to solicit their opinions.
