Rheinmetall chief says he will not step back amid alleged Russian threats
The Rheinmetall boss said he is under police protection due to alleged Russian murder plots, with similar security coverage to German Chancellor Friedrich Merz.
The head of German defense manufacturer Rheinmetall said he will not step back despite alleged threats to his safety, including accusations of Russian murder plots, according to SCMP Economy.
Armin Papperger, 63, said he receives round-the-clock protection with bodyguards even at Rheinmetall’s Düsseldorf headquarters, and described incidents such as his garden shed being set on fire and demonstrations outside his home.
Papperger said the German state provides security “as far as is humanly possible,” adding that his threat level would likely be lower in a different job.
He also argued that his field requires people able to handle intense pressure, saying “chickening out” was not an option in his role.
