Bitcoin BIP editors remove Luke Dashjr after BIP-110 soft fork

The removal was confirmed Monday at 4:52 p.m. ET, and the soft fork he championed has not produced a block since Aug. 8.

Bitcoin’s BIP editors removed Luke Dashjr from the BIPs content repository role on Monday, just two days after the soft fork he championed, BIP-110, split thousands of nodes onto a chain that has not produced a block since Aug. 8, according to The Defiant.

The BIPs repository currently has no written procedure for how editors are appointed or dismissed. Dashjr was removed by revoking his GitHub permissions and deleting one line from BIP 3, the document that lists the current editors and their duties, which had included his name and email.

Bryan Bishop, one of the remaining editors, confirmed the change on the Bitcoin Development Mailing List at 4:52 p.m. ET, saying Dashjr was no longer a permissioned user on the repository. Jon Atack also merged a pull request that deleted Dashjr’s details from BIP 3 after verifying his editor and admin privileges were removed.

In the motion that led to the decision, developer Mark "Murch" Erhardt opened the case at 2:53 p.m. ET Sunday, citing a conflict of interest, minimal contribution, championing a contentious fork, and a breakdown in coordination. Dashjr denied the accusations and said he had followed the BIP process consistently, shortly before announcing a sabbatical from the mining pool Ocean, the outlet reported.
