Chinese national pleads guilty to trying to export US military equipment
Prosecutors said the defendant attempted to buy US-made satellite modems and radios for export to China, violating US arms export controls, and sentencing is set for October 19.
A Chinese citizen, Chen Dingwei, 29, pleaded guilty in US federal court after prosecutors said he tried to purchase US-made military equipment for export to China in violation of US arms export controls, according to SCMP Economy citing the US Department of Justice.
The DOJ said the equipment at issue included military-grade satellite modems and radios manufactured for the US military by US companies that are barred from exporting such items to China under the US Arms Export Control Act.
SCMP Economy reports that US District Judge David Sam accepted Chen’s guilty plea in Salt Lake City, Utah, and scheduled sentencing for October 19.
The DOJ said the case carries a potential maximum sentence of up to 20 years in US federal prison.
