Consortium including Bezos advances talks for 30% stake in Liverpool

Fenway Sports Group bought Liverpool in a £300 million deal in 2010, and previously sold a minority stake to Dynasty Equity.

A consortium led by British-Indian businessman Amit Bhatia has advanced talks to buy about a 30% stake in Liverpool, BBC Sport reports. The group also includes Amazon founder Jeff Bezos and Facebook co-founder Eduardo Saverin.

The talks follow confirmation from Liverpool owners Fenway Sports Group, which said last month that the consortium had expressed interest in making a strategic minority investment in the club.

Bhatia previously relinquished his stake in Queens Park Rangers after serving as a director and co-owner there for 18 years, according to the report. Fenway Sports Group bought Liverpool in a £300 million deal in 2010, and it previously sold a minority stake in the club to Dynasty Equity.

The outlet also notes that Bezos stepped down as Amazon chief executive in 2021 to become executive chairman and that, while he explored earlier sports franchise involvement, he has now moved closer to a position in Liverpool.
