Dow trades near 53,900 as war premium fears and oil lift sentiment

Intel shares fell about 3% after the company said it will sell $15 billion of common stock, while the index largely held within Friday’s range as markets digested productivity data and Iran tension.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average traded near 53,900 on Monday, down about 0.3% and pinned near the low of the session, with the day’s price action largely contained within Friday’s range, according to FXStreet. The index spent much of the session waiting for the upcoming inflation print and then shifted attention to other developments.

A key driver in the session came from outside the average, with Intel down roughly 3% after it said it would sell $15 billion of common stock, a move that did not directly lift the broader index. FXStreet also pointed to the U.S. second-quarter productivity report, where the labor share fell to 52.9%, the lowest in a series dating to 1947.

FXStreet said output per hour rose 1.4% in the quarter and 2.2% versus a year earlier, while hourly compensation rose 2.7% and fell 3.1% after consumer prices are accounted for. The release also showed unit labor costs up 1.3%, with FXStreet noting that the accompanying value-added price deflator ran near 7%, leaving explanations for the gap focused on factors such as energy, tariffs, and margins.

Late in the session, FXStreet highlighted a rise in oil prices, with West Texas Intermediate crude up about 3% near $81 and Brent above $86. It linked the move to hardening headlines tied to Iran, including a reported rejection of restarting talks until Washington responds to what Tehran calls breaches of a June framework, and a U.S. posture toward seeking compensation from Iran.
