Hong Kong heatwave to persist through Wednesday or Thursday
The Hong Kong Observatory said temperatures are forecast to reach at least 37°C, while thundery showers may become more likely later this week.
Hong Kong’s weather forecaster said the city’s extreme heat is expected to continue until at least Wednesday or Thursday, with more frequent showers later in the week offering the prospect of relief.
According to the Hong Kong Observatory, outer subsiding airflow linked to Tropical Cyclone Dolphin is driving very hot conditions across Guangdong and Hong Kong. The agency said upper-air disturbances could bring unsettled weather later, with increasing showers potentially easing the intense heat and raising the likelihood of thundery showers.
Temperatures have already climbed above 34°C across multiple areas, with Wong Tai Sin recording the highest reading at 35.1°C at 10am and Happy Valley at 35°C. A very hot weather warning remains in force.
The Labour Department has also issued an amber heat stress at work warning, as the heat is expected to persist and high temperatures in some areas are forecast to hit at least 37°C.
