Russia plans to expand workforce at Iran’s Bushehr nuclear site
Rosatom expects to raise its Russian headcount at Bushehr from 25 to around 100 by autumn as work on units 2 and 3 advances.
OilPrice, citing Russia’s TASS news agency, reports that Russia is increasing its staffing for the expansion of Iran’s Bushehr nuclear plant despite the ongoing conflict and intermittent U.S. strikes on Iranian infrastructure.
The report says Rosatom plans to grow its Russian workforce at Bushehr from 25 to around 100 by autumn, with five engineering and technical specialists already arriving and several dozen more expected over the next two weeks. The returning personnel are working on main and auxiliary buildings for Units 2 and 3 and preparing hydraulic engineering facilities.
Construction of Bushehr Units 2 and 3 was halted in March after U.S. and Israeli strikes began landing near the nuclear complex. Earlier, a Reuters report described a return that began in July after hundreds of Russian personnel were evacuated, leaving 20 specialists at the facility for much of the disruption.
The story adds that Unit 2 is designed to add 974 MW of net generating capacity, roughly doubling Iran’s existing nuclear generation capacity, based on IAEA reactor data. It also notes that Bushehr’s only operating unit currently provides Iran with 915 MW of net capacity.
