Trump tariff refunds totaled about $100 billion by late July
The refunds completed by the end of July topped more than half of the roughly $166 billion collected before the Supreme Court struck down the tariffs earlier this year.
The Trump administration had completed roughly $100 billion in tariff refunds by the end of July, according to a filing cited by Yahoo Finance in the U.S. Court of International Trade.
That amount represents more than half of about $166 billion collected under the tariffs that the U.S. Supreme Court struck down earlier this year.
Yahoo Finance said the refund money is generally headed to the U.S. businesses that legally paid the tariffs at import, even though research from the Federal Reserve Bank of New York found nearly 90% of the economic burden from the 2025 tariffs fell on U.S. firms and consumers.
The story also notes that the tax breaks tied to the broader policy framework expire after 2028, and that major retailers and companies have described refunds as limited to certain cases or potentially used to support lower prices, rather than automatically reimbursing consumers.
