US State Department says more than 175,000 visas were revoked in 2026
The department said 2025 saw over 100,000 revocations, setting a record, and it is now on pace to exceed that level again this year.
The Trump administration is on pace for a record year of US visa revocations, the State Department said Monday, disclosing that more than 175,000 visas have been revoked since President Donald Trump returned to office.
According to the State Department, the revocations targeted foreign nationals who violated visa terms, committed crimes, called for violence against US citizens, defrauded Americans, abused the immigration system, or endangered national security, with each decision made case by case.
A State Department spokesperson told the South China Morning Post that more than 100,000 visas were revoked in 2025, the highest annual number on record, and that the department expects to exceed that figure in 2026.
The announcement did not provide an exact 2026 tally or a breakdown by visa category or nationality, though it referenced specific cases involving nationals from North Africa and deportable cases involving Iranian, Kuwaiti, Cuban, and Laotian nationals.
