US State Department says visa revocations top 175,000 since Trump took office
The department says 100,000 visas were revoked in 2025 and it expects to exceed that record in 2026, though it did not give a 2026 total by category or nationality.
The South China Morning Post reports that the US State Department said the Trump administration is on pace for a record year of visa revocations, with more than 175,000 revoked since the president returned to office.
The department attributed the action to cases involving violations of visa terms, criminal activity, calls for violence against US citizens, fraud against Americans, abuse of the immigration system, or threats to national security, according to the State Department.
A spokesperson told the outlet that more than 100,000 visas were revoked in 2025, the highest annual number on record, and that 2026 is set to surpass it, implying at least 75,000 additional revocations this year.
The official announcement did not provide a breakdown of revocations by visa type or country, but it referenced cases involving nationals from North African countries and deportable cases involving Iranian, Kuwaiti, Cuban, and Laotian nationals.
