China civil aviation authority increases safety outreach to AirAsia

The CAAC said it fully affirmed AirAsia’s safety efforts and cooperation after the airline briefed officials on its China operations and compliance plans.

China’s civil aviation regulator has increased safety-focused communications with some foreign carriers from Southeast Asia as it seeks to strengthen ties, communication, and oversight, according to the South China Morning Post.

In recent interactions, AirAsia senior management including AirAsia’s group chief safety officer, the CEO of AirAsia X, and engineering and regional leaders met with officials from the Civil Aviation Administration of China to brief them on the airline’s China operations and compliance plans, the outlet reported.

After the briefing, CAAC officials “fully affirmed” AirAsia’s efforts, track record, and cooperation. An aviation analyst cited changing operational practices as a factor behind the regulator’s approach, and said air travel in China remained safe, the report added.

AirAsia did not immediately respond to the Post’s request for comment.
