eToro to buy TradeZero for up to $231 million as US expansion

The deal targets broker-dealer infrastructure and is expected to close in the first half of 2027, adding U.S. stock and options capabilities beyond eToro's limited crypto menu.

eToro has agreed to acquire TradeZero, a U.S. active-trader brokerage, in a deal valued at up to $231 million, as it accelerates its push into American equities. The company said the transaction would add broker-dealer infrastructure and provide access to Canadian markets, with closing expected in the first half of 2027, according to Decrypt.

TradeZero, founded in 2015, offers commission-free U.S. stock and options trading through its broker-dealer subsidiaries, and operates across the U.S., Canada, and other international markets. eToro framed the purchase as a faster route to launching new U.S. products and said it will deepen its presence in the equities market, Decrypt reported.

The purchase also highlights how eToro's U.S. crypto offering remains constrained by U.S. regulatory limits. After a 2021 SEC settlement, American users can only trade Bitcoin, Ethereum, and Bitcoin Cash, with a 180-day window to offload other tokens, and eToro has been working around the restriction by pursuing other product efforts.

Financially, the consideration includes cash and up to 2.5 million newly issued Class A common shares, subject to customary adjustments. Decrypt reported that TradeZero generated about $80 million in revenue with 81% gross margins over the last twelve months, and that the announcement did not lift eToro's stock.
