FM buys wildfire intelligence firm FortressFire to assess property risk

FM said FortressFire will continue operating as an independent, wholly owned division under its own brand and leadership after the acquisition.

Commercial property insurer FM acquired FortressFire, a provider of wildfire intelligence that uses machine learning and physics-based modeling, with financial terms of the deal not disclosed, Reinsurance News reported.

FortressFire specializes in helping insurers and property stakeholders understand and manage wildfire exposure at the individual property level, using tools that include aerial wildfire reporting, ongoing monitoring, analytics, ground inspections, and mitigation assessments.

FM said the FortressFire platform supports risk modeling that drills down to structure-specific insights and includes actionable mitigation recommendations, aiming to help reduce ignition and improve the path to insurability through science-backed risk management.

FM also said FortressFire will operate as an independent, wholly owned division of FM with its own brand and leadership, continuing to serve insurers, reinsurers, brokers, real estate professionals, lenders, and property owners.
