James River profit rose 59% in Q2 despite lower premiums
Net earned premiums fell 9% year over year to $139.0 million, while the combined ratio edged up to 100.2% from 98.6%.
James River Group Holdings, Inc. reported net income available to common shareholders of $4.4 million in Q2, up 59% from $2.8 million in the same quarter a year earlier, according to Reinsurance News. The company said gross written premiums declined 29% to $268.9 million from $378 million in Q2’25, while net written premiums were $148.4 million, down 16% from $176 million. Net earned premiums fell 9% to $139.0 million from $152.6 million, and total revenues dropped to $161.3 million from $174.8 million. James River’s combined ratio rose to 100.2% from 98.6%. The quarter included a lower loss ratio of 66.3% compared with 68.1%, but a higher expense ratio of 33.9% versus 30.5%, and the Excess and Surplus Lines combined ratio was 92.8%. The outlet also noted net investment income decreased slightly to $20.3 million from $20.5 million a year earlier. CEO Frank D’Orazio said the results reflected progress on the company’s priorities, including growth in submissions and quotes, along with a disciplined approach focused on risk selection, expense management, and operating efficiency.
