SpaceX will build AI computing exclusively on Nvidia under new plan
In comments tied to SpaceX results, Elon Musk said the shift is meant to expand computing capacity for xAI's Grok and for SpaceX's pending Cursor acquisition.
Yahoo Finance reports that Elon Musk said SpaceX has decided to build its AI computing exclusively on Nvidia going forward, moving away from what had been described as a mixed approach to AI hardware.
The outlet links the decision to Nvidia's broader positioning in AI infrastructure, including Nvidia's “extreme codesign” approach that pairs chips with networking and software as an integrated system rather than selling components separately. Nvidia CFO Colette Kress said no single chip would be able to solve the full set of system needs for advanced workloads.
Yahoo Finance also says Musk tied the new capacity to powering xAI's Grok chatbot and SpaceX's pending Cursor acquisition, which he said is close to clearing regulatory hurdles. The story notes SpaceX has discussed a tentative power target of 20 gigawatts, in the same context.
