Former China premier Zhu Rongji dies at 97

Former Chinese premier Zhu Rongji, widely known for economic reforms, has died at age 97, according to SCMP Economy.

Zhu served as China’s premier from 1998 to 2003 and was credited with efforts to tackle corruption, shake up the centrally planned economy, and overhaul the state owned enterprise sector.

In the 1990s, when China faced high inflation, mounting debt, and SOE losses that threatened financial stability, Zhu focused on centralising fiscal policy, cutting red tape, and closing or privatising failing enterprises.
