Hawaii to ban crypto ATMs and kiosks starting Oct. 1
The law was signed in response to FBI Internet Crime Complaint Center data showing Americans lost more than $11 billion to digital-asset scams in 2025, with Hawaii accounting for about $80 million in losses tied to ATMs and kiosks.
Hawaii will become the fourth US state to enact a complete ban on cryptocurrency ATMs and kiosks, with the restriction set to take effect on Oct. 1, according to Cointelegraph.
The bill was signed by the governor and points to data from the FBI Internet Crime Complaint Center, which reported that Americans lost more than $11 billion to digital asset scams in 2025.
The FBI also recorded 826 crypto-related complaints from Hawaii residents in 2025, and cited roughly $80 million in losses in the state related to crypto ATMs and kiosks.
Hawaii’s move follows similar legislation in Minnesota, Tennessee, and Indiana, and comes as CoinATMRadar data shows 57 crypto ATMs and kiosks operating across four of the islands as of Wednesday.
