Hong Kong police arrest 19-year-old over alleged HK$3m scam
Police said the suspect was accused of impersonating mainland public security officials after she was herself allegedly pressured into handing over an NDA to a victim.
Hong Kong police have arrested a 19-year-old university student accused of swindling more than HK$3 million from a local man, after authorities said she was also allegedly deceived by scammers.
According to SCMP Economy, an inspector in Tseung Kwan O police intelligence said the arrest followed suspicion that the student impersonated mainland Chinese public security officials and carried out the scam to obtain money.
The report says the student told investigators that scammers called her, accused her of involvement in mainland money laundering, and demanded she follow their instructions to prove her innocence.
Police said the scammers later directed her to go to a hotel in Tseung Kwan O and deliver a non-disclosure agreement to the victim, while whether she profited or lost money in prior encounters remained under investigation.
