Metaplanet transfers 3,881 BTC between its own wallets, not exchanges

The 3,881 bitcoin move, worth about $247 million, went from Metaplanet cold wallets to addresses it also controls, leaving tradable supply unchanged despite the firm’s $1.4 billion unrealized loss.

Metaplanet moved 3,881 bitcoin worth about $247 million across several transactions over three hours on Wednesday, according to Arkham data cited by CoinDesk.

The transfer moved the BTC from Metaplanet cold wallets to new addresses it also controls, rather than sending it to an exchange, so the on-chain activity is not being treated as a sale.

CoinDesk notes that transfers to fresh self-custody wallets do not add to tradable supply the way deposits to exchanges do, and it described the company’s pattern as consistent with internal custody reshuffling.

Metaplanet bought about 43,000 BTC at an average of roughly $96,000, leaving the firm with an unrealized loss of about $1.4 billion at bitcoin near $63,600, down 34%, and it previously set a target of 210,000 BTC.
