Philippines warns it could miss Pax Silica hub if it fails to deliver

Manila says the proposed US-linked hub is meant to position the Philippines for AI, semiconductors, and critical minerals supply chains.

The Philippines is pushing a potential US-led Pax Silica hub as a way to move the country up the technology supply chain, but officials warned it could be lost amid domestic backlash, according to SCMP Economy.

Manila’s top diplomat to America, Jose Manuel Romualdez, said the Philippines’ close ties with the United States helped factor into its selection for the “hi-tech hub,” described as a gateway for AI, semiconductors, and critical minerals.

Romualdez cautioned that other Asian countries are also seeking to host Pax Silica, pointing to interest from Vietnam, Malaysia, and Indonesia, and said that if the Philippines “drops the ball,” those rivals could take over.

He also referenced “a lot of misinformation” about the hub circulating online but did not provide additional details, SCMP Economy reported.
