Salty relaunches as an AI-native insurance provider for car-payment households

The company says its AI system will help customers find policies, monitor rates and coverage, and assist with claims, after an earlier embedded auto insurance push.

Coverager reports that Salty founder and CEO James Hall announced the company’s relaunch as an AI-native insurance provider focused on American households with car payments.

Under the relaunch, Salty.AI is designed to work on customers’ behalf by finding suitable insurance policies, monitoring rates and coverage, and providing support when claims arise, with Hall describing the move as finishing “unfinished business.”

Founded in 2019, the Salt Lake City-based startup previously offered an embedded insurance platform that let consumers buy auto insurance during the car-buying process.

The company raised $16 million before being acquired by automotive retail technology provider CDK Global in 2021, and its platform has been used to let carriers and distribution partners offer insurance in real time during the purchase process, Coverager reports.
