Tata chairman Chandrasekaran will step down in February 2027
During his tenure as Tata Sons chairman since 2017, LiveMint Markets says several Tata stocks posted gains of 1,000% or more, including Trent up 1,706.9% and Nelco up 1,141.6%.
LiveMint Markets reports that outgoing Tata Sons chairman N Chandrasekaran said he will not seek reappointment when his term ends on 20 February 2027, ending a 40-year run with the Tata Group.
The article says the decision follows a six-month impasse after his proposed five-year extension failed to win unanimous support at a 24 February board meeting. Chandrasekaran took charge as Tata Sons chairman on 21 February 2017, after Cyrus Mistry’s departure.
According to LiveMint Markets, 19 Tata Group stocks more than doubled investors’ wealth over his leadership period. Trent is cited as the biggest gainer, rising 1,706.9% from ₹166.47 in 2017 to ₹3,008 in 2026.
The report attributes stock performance to improvements in financial and operational performance across group companies, including rising revenues, stronger profitability, business expansion, and improved execution that translated into earnings growth and a re-rating of several listed Tata names. It also lists Nelco at up 1,141.6%, Tata Investment Corporation up 1,063.2%, and Titan Company up 1,018.6%.
