Vodafone Idea posts narrower Q1 loss as subscribers stabilize

The company added 0.3 million subscribers, bringing total customers to 193 million, while it plans to invest ₹45,000 crore in its network over the next three years.

Vodafone Idea’s turnaround showed early signs of stabilization in its June-quarter results, with the company adding 0.3 million subscribers in Q1FY27. That was the first net addition since the 2018 merger, lifting its total subscriber base to 193 million from 198 million a year earlier, LiveMint Markets said.

Despite the subscriber uptick, the company still reported a loss of ₹3,754 crore in Q1FY27, narrower than the ₹6,608 crore loss in the year-ago period. LiveMint Markets noted the quarter included an exceptional gain of ₹1,816 crore tied to an increase in the value of Vodafone Group’s shares, while the loss would have been ₹5,358 crore after adjusting for exceptional items.

Revenue rose 6% year on year to ₹11,689 crore, beating Street estimates, and EBITDA increased 9% to ₹5,034 crore. The company also reported ARPU of ₹177, up 1.7% sequentially and 7.3% year on year, supported by customer upgrades and higher data usage.

Vodafone Idea reiterated it plans to invest ₹45,000 crore in its network over the next three years, as management pointed to potential ARPU gains from 2G to 4G migration and unlimited plans. LiveMint Markets said the shares rose 2.5% on Wednesday and are up more than twofold over the past year to ₹13, though it remains constrained by network investment needs, AGR liability overhang, and weaker finances.
